We were delighted to welcome Jenny to the school on Tuesday to speak to a group of students about her research into the suffragette movement in Kent.
Jenny spent two years researching this fascinating subject; painstakingly going through pamphlets and documents to trace the tours and record some new information about Ethel Baldock, who was born in Maidstone. Ethel was a young working class Kent maid, involved in the suffrage movement, who was arrested and imprisoned for breaking glass during the 1912 window-smashing militant action.
Jenny spoke passionately and brought to life many thought-provoking stories of the women who fought for the vote.
Jenny has given us two copies of her book, Suffragettes of Kent, which can be borrowed from the Library and enjoyed.
