Design Icons
Students in Key Stage 3 at MGGS have been exploring the work of iconic designers from a broad range of design movements throughout the ages. In order to help inspire and inform students of famous designers, makers and creators, we have been busy generating vinyl decals in the style of polaroids to showcase a selection of successful designers both past and present. These have been created using computer aided design (2D Design) and computer aided manufacture (a CAMM1 machine) to replicate a process that is widely used in industry to transfer images from one surface to another. By simply taking a photograph, vectorising the image and creating a negative transfer, you can ensure a consistent and high quality finish is achieved time after time.
Both Dr Zoe Laughlin (featured as guest judge on this week’s Great British Menu on BBC2) and Jude Pullen (featured designer on BBC1’s The Big Life Fix) have been in contact with Mrs Price to express thanks for their place on MGGS’s wall of inspiring Design Icons! Anyone has the capacity to be a design icon, be it a product or fashion designer – all it takes is a blend of creativity, determination and perseverance. Have you got what it takes to make it onto the wall of fame? Why not stop by DT and take a look at where you might see yourself in the future…
