Jubilee Magnolia Tree?

We were thrilled to hear from a former student Sarah Strike (nee Chown) last week who gave us some amazing news on just how old our magnificent magnolia tree might be…

Sarah joined MGGS in September 1956 and the magnolia tree then stood a mere one metre tall.  Sarah believes that it must have been planted to mark either the Queen’s succession to the throne in 1952 or more likely the Queen’s Coronation in 1953!  With the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee taking place over half term this information could not be more timely.

Does anyone else know more about our beautiful magnolia tree? If so please do get in touch with us via central@mggs.org.

May I also take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and peaceful Jubilee half term and we look forward to seeing students back in school on Monday, 6th June.

Miss Stanley, Headteacher
