Introducing the Music Team
Here at MGGS we are very lucky to have a group of talented instrumental and vocal teachers visit us each week to help our students progress. A range of group and individual lessons are available through us and Kent Music School. Over the next few weeks we will be introducing you to the members of the team through some brief interviews.
Today we are talking to Mr Shoobridge – Clarinet and Sax teacher
How long have you been part of the MGGS music team?
28 years!
What do you like the most about working at MGGS?
The sense of humour of staff and students. Having a large bright space to teach in.
What made you become an instrumental teacher?
I enjoyed helping people with their playing but didn’t fancy classroom teaching. I had previously worked in banking and insurance and certainly didn’t find them a good fit for me.
What is the funniest thing to have happened in one of your lessons?
Literally getting an attack of giggles that wouldn’t stop. The student was also laughing and couldn’t play.
If you could give one piece of advice to students thinking of learning an instrument what would it be?
Be prepared to practise regularly. You will progress more rapidly and get to play the music you enjoy quicker. Be patient!
If you could be given the skills to learn any instrument instantly, what instrument would you choose?
Other than clarinet and saxophone (obviously) – trumpet would be my choice.
