Students and staff have been working hard on the rowing machines to support the Dandelion Time Rowathon. Dandelion Time is Kent’s charity for children and their families fragmented by trauma, abuse and neglect. Teachers and pupils have responded to the Dandelion Time Rowathon challenge with enthusiasm, determination and passion and hope their contribution will enable Dandelion Time to reach their target of rowing 5,600 miles from Marden to Madagascar.
Those involved at MGGS have used their lunchtimes over the past two weeks to row as many miles as possible. The enthusiasm from the students aged 11 – 18 has been amazing to see, and for many of the participants this was their first time on a rowing machine. The students and staff rowed a total of 188.24 miles.
More than 100 students have contributed to this mileage total and many more students came along to support and encourage the rowers; 50 of these students were our new Year 7’s. The teamwork was fantastic to see! An amazing effort was made by Freya H in Year 8 who rowed the furthest distance totalling an incredible 4 miles. A brilliant effort from all students and staff involved!
It is anticipated that MGGS will raise in excess of £150 for this charity.
