Iona Eagles, who was until July this year at Maidstone Grammar School for Girls completing her A levels in the sixth form, has been awarded the John Downton Arts Award for “the Award for Mixed Media.”
The John Downton Award for Young Artists is an annual exhibition which encourages and celebrates the creativity of Kent’s young artists. It is open to students, aged 11 – 18, from schools and colleges across Kent. An exhibition of works is currently being shown at County Hall in Maidstone (26th October to 2nd December 2015).

Iona was thrilled upon hearing the good news and wanted to say a huge thank you to her former school, especial Ms Arthurs, Head of the Art Department for her inspiration and encouragement. Iona’s parents commented, “We cannot say how much Iona loved being part of MGGS and indeed the Art Department, and although absolutely loving Exeter University reading English Literature, she so enjoyed being stretched artistically at MGGS.”
