Fifteen Key Stage 3 students from MGGS attended a Forensic Science day at Canterbury Christchurch University on 2nd December.
They were informed of a staged murder and attended four workshops to see if the perpetrator was the victim’s boyfriend. Visiting the crime scene, finger print profiling, using University laboratories for Forensic Biology to test blood-stained clothing and Forensic Chemistry to ascertain which pen was used to write an incriminating note, were all involved in the investigation.
The students recorded their evidence during the day and used it to answer questions in the debrief. There was a quiz to see who obtained the most evidence. Our team of Beatrice F, Lexi G-P, both in 9N and Francesca W, Ellena S, both in 7F, obtained the most clues. This was particularly impressive as they were against teams from three other schools, including a sixth form college!
Beatrice said of the day,
“I really enjoyed this trip as I learnt a huge amount about the skills needed to be a forensics investigator or scientist. It taught me about future career opportunities.”
Mr O’Sullivan, Head of Key Stage 3 Science gave congratulations to all the team.
