They say lightning doesn’t strike the same place twice, but it sure felt like it, as the Year 8 girls football went exactly the same way as our year 9 tournament. Despite not conceding a goal, or losing a match we finished third in the Maidstone Cup. Three teams tied for first on points, but we ended up third on goal difference alone. Despite the girls’ feeling of disappointment, it was a chance to learn that the best teams don’t always win and training together as a team is more important than having a team full of stars.

However, they should feel proud of their individual performances. Our goal keeper Roo didn’t concede a goal all tournament. She was ably defended by our excellent defenders Olivia, Faith and Naeve. Our midfield of Lilia, Daisy and Rebecca ran tirelessly in the heat and Eva was excellent playing out of position as our lone striker.
