On Thursday 4th February the MGGS rowing teams made their way to Medway Park to compete in the Kent School Games Finals. The morning started well with Isobel M winning a bronze medal in the individuals and the year 7 team achieving a bronze in the relay. Next up it was the year 10 team consisting of Tegan G, Rhona L, Hannah R and Grace Ma. An extremely competitive race with Hannah and Tegan coming joint second and Grace a close third. In the relay, Rhona sprinted the team home finishing in gold medal position.
The year 11 team consisted of Ella K, Katie L, Rosie W and Alice M. The individual race was a closely fought contest with only 5m separating first and third place, with first place awarded to Katie. The relay was going to be tough. But with outstanding performances from all four rowers the team finished first.
The year 12 and 13 team being the conscientious students that they are did not want to miss a whole morning of lessons so arrived at Medway Park with minutes to spare before their race. However this did not affect their performance with a PB from both Rachael K and Sophie W. There were more medals to come with Sophie T taking the gold and Sophie W the silver. Then it was on to the team relay, shortly after completing their 2km race, but with their outstanding levels of fitness and determination the girls achieved gold.
What a fantastic day! Lots of medals, a couple of PB’s and a great bunch of girls. Well done all of you.
