Writing competition to mark the centenary of the MGGS School Magazine
Autumn 2024 marks the centenary of the school’s magazine. To mark this, the school is launching a writing competition. There are three categories for entries. Entries must be no more than 500 words. You may only submit one entry.
At the top of your entry, you need to state your name and form, and state the category of your entry.
Category One: Creative Writing
Either
Describe a tour of MGGS, from the perspective of a guide or visitor, 30 years from now.
Or
Minnie Maria Ring was the first student to be admitted to MGGS in January 1888 when she was 11 years old. Write a short story beginning with this prompt: “Monday 3rd September 1888. The air was cool and crisp as I followed the entrance path snaking towards the Maidstone Grammar School for Girls building…”
Category Two: Persuasive Writing
Is a selective (Grammar School) Education fit for purpose in the 2020s? Write a response outlining 3 points to support your view.
Category Three: Non-fiction Writing
Write an explanation, drawing on your own experiences, of what ‘non sibi sed omnibus’ means to you.

Winning entries will be published in the News & Blog and authors of winning entries will each receive a £30 book token!
