CyberFirst Girls Competition Year 8 Familiarisation Day
On Tuesday 8th October, 56 Year 8 girls from seven local schools in Kent, including 12 Year 8 girls from MGGS, gathered at MGGS’ Main Hall. They had the opportunity to meet cyber security experts from the University of Kent and find out what it’s like to work in cyber security by hearing inspiring career stories from three female cybersecurity professionals.
The students were highly engaged in the interactive workshop and gained hands-on experience, tackling some of the challenges featured in the 2024 CyberFirst Girls Competition. This Familiarisation Day was hosted in conjunction with the Institute of Cyber Security for Society (University of Kent) and Maidstone and Kent Computing Hub. The Cyber First Competition aims to inspire girls interested in technology to pursue a career in cyber security. It goes hand in hand with the ‘I Belong’ programme, which encourages girls into computer science, run by the Computing Hub (part of National Centre for Computing Education NCCE).
The registration for the competition is open now! Please speak to your Computer Science teacher if you are interested in it. For details, please click this link.
