From Classroom to Continent: MGGS Flag Flies High in Antarctica!

Exciting news for our school community –  Earlier this year you may remember that a flag was created by a student in year 7 to represent Antarctica. The flag created by Madeline D, has made it to one of the most remote and fascinating places on Earth: Antarctica!

After an incredible journey, the flag was proudly photographed at the Signy Research Station, nestled in the icy wilderness of the South Orkney Islands. This extraordinary achievement wouldn’t have been possible without Derren Fox and his dedicated team, who not only carried the flag to this frozen frontier but also captured its moment of glory.

The team posed with our flag against the stunning backdrop of an Adélie penguin colony, a scene of sheer natural wonder. These resilient little penguins are true symbols of Antarctic life, braving the extreme conditions that define the southernmost continent photographed in Antarctica, honouring the Antarctic Treaty and fostering a deeper appreciation for this extraordinary and essential region.
