Creative Writing – Term 3 Winner!
Well done for everyone who submitted entries into the creative writing competition. The prompt this term was to write a poem about new beginnings, and the winner was picked for their unique interpretation, focusing on a butterfly!
Well done to Sienna W (8G)! The runners up were Iris J (7S), and Yusra K (7G).
Here is her wonderful poem!
The Butterfly
Out of the egg, she slowly crawls
The darkness falling away as the sunlight calls
Blossoms of pink and white fall to her feet
And raindrops sparkle, grand like jewels
Avoiding the sun and it’s blazing hot rays
Avoiding the violent birds of prey
The caterpillar stays behind her sunflower
And fearfully hides away
Tired and weary, she builds a chrysalis
Tucked away behind leaves of orange and red
She sleeps in bliss, the silence a beautiful change
Anticipation heats her for the journeys beyond her bed
The butterfly awoke and broke free from her slumber
Snowflakes fell gracefully dancing on air
She looked around her, and unfolded her wings
Their colours bold, unique and fair
A new beginning, she thought to herself
Ideas filling her head
As she flew into the icy sky
And away flew all worries, doubts or dread
The skeletal tree branches couldn’t catch her
As she sped to try all the things
That she had never imagined she could do before
She felt as strong as knights and soldiers, queens and kings.
Yet all the while, on her new adventure
She never truly forgot
All the seasons that had passed by her
She knew from everything she had done, that she had a shot
Another year, she has yet to see
Watch beauty wilt and grow
She always holds hope in her heart
Something she learnt long ago.
