Year 8 RS trip to The Gurdwara in Gravesend
It was an amazing experience. We arrived, covered our hair, and began to explore the majestic temple. The whole experience was just amazing. The walls were covered in Sikh teachings and morals, with beautiful mosaics and paintings.
As we entered the prayer rooms, we learned all about the religion and the reasons for modesty. Then we explored the religion further and learned that they treat the Guru Granth Sahib as a spirit and an entity, not just as a book. The prayer rooms had a bed at the front of the room with the Guru Granth Sahib laid upon it. We also learned that the golden stands with the bed on top were there to show the Guru Granth Sahib’s importance in the religion and its place in Sikhs’ lives.
Then we got to witness a prayer session and pay our respects. Next, we ventured to the kitchen, where we were served bread and a lovely curry. My favourite part of the trip was definitely learning about the religion and how great it is because everyone is treated equally, whether you’re a boy or a girl, rich or poor.
Overall, the trip was amazing, and I want to thank the volunteers at the Gurdwara and the teachers who accompanied us.
