Year 12 and 13 The Anatomy Lab Live – STEAM Week
Included in STEAM Week was The Anatomy Lab, a live dissection event for our A-Level science students. The workshop consisted of learning the terminology and knowledge needed for performing dissections and bridged the gap between A-level and undergraduate biology courses.
The students then completed a variety of dissections, including a brain extraction, eye dissection and complete thorax dissection. They also observed a gastrointestinal dissection. This event was definitely not for the faint-hearted! It was a great opportunity for our budding medics or even surgeons.
“Tuesday’s anatomy lab was really fun and a great hands-on learning experience. We dissected: brain, eye, heart, lungs and many other organs and learnt so much about anatomy. Thank you to the Science Department for organising this exciting opportunity.”- Neha J Year 12
This activity was conducted for educational purposes to enhance students’ understanding of anatomy and physiology. We acknowledge that the use of animal parts for dissection may be viewed differently by individuals and cultures. Our aim was to provide a comprehensive science education while respecting diverse perspectives.
