Maidstone Grammar School for Girls held its annual Speech Day on Thursday, 5th January and welcomed former Year 13 students back to MGGS to celebrate the successes of last year’s sixth form leavers.  They were joined by Parents/Carers and other distinguished guests.

We were very honoured to welcome Mrs Threader as our guest speaker.  Mrs Threader was appointed as the Bridge Clerk (Chief Executive) of the Rochester Bridge Trust in January 2006.  Alongside this role, Mrs Threader regularly works to promote civil engineering and the work of the Trust.

MGGS has continued its link with the Rochester Bridge Trust, which funded the building and establishment of MGGS 130 years ago.  Mrs Threader in her speech gave details of the opening ceremony and the forward-thinking attitude towards girls’ education of those who founded the school.

Councillor Derek Butler, the Mayor of Maidstone and the Mayoress, also honoured MGGS with their presence.  Councillor Butler was nominated by Maidstone Borough Council to The Rochester Bridge Trust in 2015 and currently serves on the Bridge Committee.

Miss Stanley, Headteacher commented, “I was very pleased to see last year’s Year 13 students back at MGGS to collect their certificates and prizes.  They worked incredibly hard to achieve their academic success in last summer’s examinations and we are very proud of all of them.”
