Students giving the Oxfam cheque for £1,808 to Ms Hughes, Oxfam’s Regional Director for the South East.

MGGS students take great pride in supporting local, national and international charities and every year each form group in the school holds its own charity event.  During 2016 students raised an amazing total of £13,601, something of which we are all very proud of.

During MGGS’ Rag Week in December students raised an amazing £5,271 to be shared between our two partnership schools in Nepal: the Bal Sudhar Secondary School in Sindulpolchok and the Shree Himalaya Milan Secondary School in Tangting, and also Maidstone’s Homeless Care.

Students in year 8 participated in a sponsored zumba workout in the spring, there was a charity run for sport relief and numerous cake sales; one event which raised £1,808 alone was the year 9 Oxjam concert for Oxfam.

Other notable charities supported were Motor Neurone Disease Association, British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK, NSPCC, Teenage Cancer Trust and Oxjam to name but a few.  Local charities supported were Maidstone Homeless Trust, Demelza House, and Cobtree Children’s Hospice.

All of MGGS’s charity work shows that students embrace our school motto “Non sibi sed Omnibus” which translated from Latin means “Not for oneself but for all.”
