As 2017’s RAG (raising & giving) week is underway, we reflect on the school’s proud history of fundraising. A report written for the opening of the new Buckland Road building in 1938 states that the fact that ‘the school is aware of its responsibility to others is evident since a sum of over £3,000 has been raised since 1912 for the support of Barnardo’s Home alone, besides generous contributions towards the various local social activities. The old girls maintain the tradition by supporting a cot at the West Kent Hospital’.
The school continues to raise money through RAG week and form time charity activities for a range of deserving causes such as Oxfam, Lepra, Against Malaria, UNICEF, The Red Cross, Maidstone Homeless Care and, of course, for our partner schools in Nepal.
RAG week continues to entertain and delight students and teachers alike. Looking back at years past, the lunchtime ‘shows’ have changed little and continue to showcase adverts & trailers, the staff pantomime and a parody of a current popular television programme. It remains to be seen who will be ‘fired’ in this year’s production of The Apprentice…..

We are drawing ever closer to our official 130th anniversary on the 20th January 2018. However, we have our official celebratory event scheduled for the 7th July 2018, when the school will be open to all for a nostalgic trip down memory lane whilst enjoying afternoon tea, taking in a musical recital or even playing stoolball!
