On the 21st of March MGGS participated in raising money for Sport Relief. The events that took place included the sport relief mile, a cake sale and a bench ball match between teachers and sixth form.
Sport relief mile
The whole of KS3 participated in walking, jogging or running this mile within their PE lessons. They were all asked to make a donation to the cause and in total we raised £224.79. We are very happy with the result of this and hope to raise more from this next year as it becomes increasingly popular.
Cake Sale
Members of the sixth form generously donated scrumptious cakes for the whole school to purchase and enjoy. These cakes were homemade cookies, rocky road, Victoria sponge and fairy cakes. All of the cakes were sold by the end of the day with generous donations from staff as well as pupils.
The highly anticipated bench ball tournament
With great advertising produced throughout the school the turn-out to watch the bench ball tournament was greater than anticipated. The sports hall was filled with spectators cheering for their favourite teachers and sixth form boys. In the first round the sixth form boys used their athleticism to overcome the teachers and win. Between the next round strategies were discussed in team talks which lead to the teachers team becoming victorious at the end of the second round. In the final deciding round it was an epic battle to clinch victory. The game was tense, fierce and whittled down to a single sixth former left to gain entry on their bench. After many attempts the ball was finally caught and the sixth form team became MGGS bench ball Champions of Sport Relief 2014.
In total for the cake sale and bench ball tournament we raised £152.75. This leads to a total of £377.54. We would like to thank everyone who donated, participated and spectated. We hope that next year we can raise even more for this brilliant cause.
P.S apologies to Mr Ansette for your glasses being knocked off.
