On Tuesday 11th February, the Under 16 Futsal team travelled to Medway Park to compete in the County Futsal Finals, as part of the Kent School Games. The team was drawn in Pool B and were to play 3 matches in the first stage of the competition. Their first match was against Barton Court, where the girls started as they meant to go on, securing a 3-0 win. Their next match was against Tonbridge, where again, the girls showed their strength as a team and won the match 1 – 0. The final match in the pool stage was against Dane Court, and after some more excellent futsal won the match 1-0 and came top of their group. This lead the girls to play the second place team from pool A, Westlands. Westlands proved to be a strong team with some near misses, but Maidstone stayed focussed and played the game their way, and secured a 2-0 victory to take them into the final against Mayfied. With Mayfield taking advantage of a quick start, they managed to score first and with an injury break straight after, it gave the girls time to rethink and restart. After a nail-biting game, Maidstone got the goal they deserved and leveled the game at 1-1. Full time. This meant only one thing……penalties! With a confident start and some great saves from Katie, Maidstone scored every penalty they took to win the shoot out and the match. They now progress into the Regional Finals. A fantastic day and some brilliant futsal from the team who consisted of Amanda, Zoe, Katie, Laura, Megan, Tish and Eve.
